Scott Kamman

Music Teacher

Scott Kamman was born in Columbus, Indiana. He received his elementary education at Immanuel Lutheran School in Seymour, IN and graduated from Seymour High School in 1982. Being very interested in music, he began taking organ lessons at the age of 8, then learning to play the piano later in his schooling. He began playing organ for his home congregation, Zion Lutheran in Seymour, IN, while in high school.

Scott continued his education in the teacher education program at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI, majoring in music. While there, he served as chapel organist and student conductor, sang in the Concordia Choir and served as its president, tour director, and student director. He was also a member of the contemporary singing group Kol Timbrel. He graduated from Concordia in 1986. In the fall of that year, he completed his student teaching at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church and School in Birmingham, MI, a suburb of Detroit, and received his Lutheran Teacher’s Diploma.

His first call was to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Peru, IN in the fall of 1987. There he served as teacher of grades three and four, school and church music director, and adult choir director and organist.

In 1990, he was called to serve at Our Savior Lutheran Church and School in Louisville, KY. He began as teacher of grades three and four combined, taught music and choir and played the organ. He eventually moved up to grade six, and was named music director of the church and school. He currently serves as church music director where he conducts several choirs, handbell groups, and a contemporary Praise Team. As school music director, he teaches school music (Grades K-8) and choir (Grades Preschool-8). Scott enjoys composing music for his choirs, especially for the school children.

He married the former Rebecca (Becky) Kassel, Our Savior’s second grade teacher, in 1996. Together they have two lovely daughters, Hannah Joy (23) and Leah Grace (19).

Scott enjoys reading, listening to all kinds of music, watching Jeopardy, rooting for the Cincinnati Reds, and travelling with his family. He and Becky are the caregivers and handlers for Mercy Comfort Dog.
